I've been attempting to expand the music I listen to. Of course, the expansion process can be brutal at times - you sometimes listen to crap which makes you cringe and in some cases, as when I listened to "Tribulation" by a band called Skullflower, I am sure that if I had attempted to listen to the full album my ears would have bled from their tribulations. I still give Skullflower props for their band name and many of their song titles, though.
However, there are some gems. For example, there is
Pharoah Sanders, who I stumbled across on at
allmusic.com when he was featured in their "Album of the Day." The album was "Karma." This album is a bit different from most: it only contains two songs, one of them coming in at a whopping 32 minutes and 47 seconds. It's called 'The Creator Has a Master Plan' and I promise the minutes will speed by. The song is just bloody amazing.
On a less serious note, there is
Jingle Punx. It isn't difficult to figure out what they do. My favorite by them so far was their rendition of "Silent Night." The original song tends to drag on a bit. However, Jingle Punx sums the song up in 21 seconds. Let's hear a woot! for punk!
Trying to sum up who I listened to in the past couple of weeks would be pretty difficult, but here's a list of the important albums to listen to:
So Divided - ...and you will know us by the trail of the dead.
Save Each Other, the Whales are Doing Fine - Patent Pending
In the Pines - In the Pines (local KC band, by the way...)
Falcon - Unicornography
Oh, and to avoid at all costs: +44. You've probably heard them on the radio. Why, oh why, can we just never get rid of those Blink 182 people!? Argh!
Don't die.
